What makes a good contact form
A good WordPress contact form has a few key traits that our templates handle automatically:
Short enough to be answered. More fields = fewer submissions. Ask for only what you need.
Proper validation. Email fields that validate email format. Required fields marked with asterisks.
Anti-spam built in. Every Fillin Forge form, not only the contact templates, runs three checks on each submission: a hidden honeypot field, a time check that refuses a submission sent less than 2 seconds after the form was loaded, and a signed token that is valid for 6 hours. There is no setting to switch them off, and none of the three asks the visitor to solve anything. A further check, Google reCAPTCHA v3, is optional: it works once you enter the Site Key and the Secret Key in the Google reCAPTCHA v3 card of Fillin Forge > Settings.
Mobile-friendly. The form sits in a container that is at most 640 pixels wide and centered, and its text inputs, text areas and dropdowns fill the width of that container, so the form narrows with the screen.
Confirmation message. After submission, users see a confirmation message (“Thank you! Your submission has been received.” by default, which you can change in the Form Settings card), not a blank page.
Admin notification. To get an email for each message, turn on Notify admin on submission in the Email Notifications card of the form builder and confirm the address in Notification email. In the builder a new form starts with it switched off, and the Notification email starts with your site administrator’s address. The email lists the value of each field and has a View submission button.
